Day 4: Portsmouth, RI to Cape Cod, MA
Rough night when Chris and I got the pull out couch. But the boys were hot cause they closed the bedroom door and the A/C was in the hall. We survived to tell the tale. No breakfast, no ice machine, nothing but some beds and walls (thin at that as I heard the neighbor's TV until I turned on the A/C). I ventured out by myself this morning to grab some breakfast from McDonald's (6 miles away).
Was back just in time to pack up the car, hurry Henry along (even though I was the last one out), and head on to the Topiary gardens (you know, the ones I excluded yesterday... we actually passed them on the way to the hotel last night...sweet). After some silly photos, we made it to the cool Rail Excursion in Portsmouth. We biked on a duo and quad cart on the railroad track, about 90 minutes round trip. We were all 5 exhausted when done, yet I had a 2 hour drive to the Cape yet. Lucky me!Two stops along the way to the Cape were the Sandwich Glass Museum (didn't pay to see the glass-blowing cause we were pressed for time) where we saw $30 to $2000 pieces of beautiful glass art ranging from fish to wine glasses. Next was lunch at the Knack. 2 burgers, 2 chicken sandwiches, fish tacos, 2 milkshakes, 2 beers and a water cost $80. We ain't in Kansas no more, Toto. Good food, but not Gold plated.
We had just enough time to drive to the tip of the Cape, Provincetown (P-town to the locals). Went on an adventurous dune tour that was packed with history of the Pilgrims, the beginnings of the US Coast Guard, the hippies of the 60s in their "save the dunes" (which is today much appreciated), and 19 homes that are now property of the state that are in a lottery for working artists to rent by the week (only a distant well pump, no electricity, and a bit of an outhouse... just good 'ol mother nature).
The tour ended around 5PM when we decided to take a walk out to the charter whale-spotting ships and many other yachts. The people were of all colors of the rainbow, and the streets were crowded. The smell of the sea reminded me of Key West on my honeymoon. We decided that a walk around, a purchase of a few t-shirts, and a trip back to the car was all we had left. One and half hours back to Sandwich to find a dinner spot and a bed at the Earl of Sandwich hotel. Dinner at Captain Scott's was very fishy and good with dessert of poppy seed lemon cake. Yum!

Lots of memories made today. And once again soom good food.
